The
Business Case
Collaborative commerce, e-Business,
Automation and Process improvement all
depend on a company's ability to better
integrate people, processes and systems.
Improving integration is one of the
biggest issues facing business today.
Tokyo Electron was facing exactly this
challenge when it decided to integrate
its existing Baan enterprise solution
with the i2 factory planner. The company
also wanted to integrate its product
document management solution, Windchill
from PTC to provide a collaborative
environment which would enhance performance
levels.
Koike-san of Tokyo Electron Limited
explains: "At Tokyo Electron our
manufacturing processes are very complicated.
The company's bill of materials is probably
the largest in the industry. Previously
we were using three separate technologies
to integrate these systems. This was
no good and we realized pretty quickly
that performance would be poor."
Koike-san continues: "Baan put
us in contact with e-Emphasys to help
performance issues in producing our
bill of materials. e-Emphasys carried
out essential performance tuning which
was realized in three weeks. During
this time we discussed our integration
issues at which point they suggested
the appropriate Integration framework
that will fit our requirements".
The
Solution
e-Emphasys Developed a robust architecture
that involves transfer of static and
dynamic data between BaanERP and Factory
planner and Windchill in a three way
interface. The entire solution is developed
using Java and iBaan OpenWorld to ensure
that the solution is Platform Independent.
The integration relies on the Java and
iBaan OpenWorld framework for faster
performance. "Net Changed"
data is transferred from BaanERP to
Factory Planner and during successive
runs of the interface. This prevents
network traffic and improves performance.
Milind Bagade, CEO, e-Emphasys Technologies
explains the increasing need for advanced
integration tools: "We have found
that many companies we work with have
chosen applications to support specific
business functions. They have got legacy
systems that they can't easily replace,
but want to create a responsive, e-enabled
company that its customers, suppliers
and employees will appreciate. e-Emphasys
worked with Tokyo Electron to provide
a universal integration framework enables
companies to achieve this."
According to Mr.
Masami Miyakoshi, TCDP Manager, Tokyo
Electron "e-Emphasys joined
our team to implement the integrations
between Baan / I2 and Windchill PDM.
Their efforts were excellent and that
they finished these integrations very
efficiently and quickly. e-Emphasys
team works very hard. Hard work for
them means practically 24 hours weekdays
and weekends. Their skill level is very
high and we are very satisfied with
their performance and with the result
of their integrations."
The triangular Interface provides easy
and transparent integration between
BaanERP, i2 Factory Planner and Windchill. |
