The Customer

Invensys Foxboro is part of the Invensys Production Management Division and provides world class Foxboro information technology, automation, and process solutions to a wide range of manufacturing applications for the cement, chemical, metals & mining, oil & gas, pulp & paper, power, pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals. Invensys sells high performance pressure and differential pressure transmitters, which are control devices to monitor pipeline pressures in process industries. Invensys' lean manufacturing techniques have helped it create a competitive advantage in this market, and the company wanted to extend the success of its lean practice to the distribution channel.

The Business Case

Vendor support for ongoing development and third-party integrations is a vital part of the decision-making process when a company is looking for an integration platform. Invensys Foxboro uses SAP R/3 for order fulfillment. Foxboro wanted to use the efficiencies of iBaan E-Sales and E- Configuration products and build a portal that will enable customers to configure and order pressure transmitters online. In addition of this complex Front end to Backend integration, Foxboro also wanted the system to perform online validation of the product configuration integrity, online tax calculation and order tracking against the back office application. Using this framework Invensys wanted to provide a single (inter)face to the customer across its divisions.

The Solution

e-Emphasys Helped Baan and Foxboro to develop this complex portal for the process automation industry. www.invensysdirect.com is the process automation industry's first true B2C portal, offering high quality pressure transmitters at around one third of the price of competing products on the market. This pricing is possible in an environment with highly reduced order lead times and channel costs.
